Scarritt Bennett is rooted in a notion of radical welcome that calls each of us to love our neighbor, calls each of us to the Golden Rule of treating others as we would like to be treated – a central tenent of all faith traditions.
We welcome people of all faiths and good will to our campus that share this plumbline of neighborly love and in doing so, create a world where there is no ‘other’, there are only neighbors. Love for neighbor shows up in the events we produce for the community, the ways in which we hold space for people to meet, eat and sleep, the ways we have, for over 100 years, helld space for people to engage one another to achieve a more just world.
In the next few weeks folks across middle Tennessee will come together on October 3rd for Celebrate Nashville, an event that was conceived by Scarritt Bennett as a Celebration of Cultures. Learn more about that history and join us on October 3 at the new state of the art pavilion in Centennial Park for an incredible line up of artists which remind us of the rich diversity that is Nashville.
On October 8th, we will host our Fall Fundraiser: An Evening of Conversation, Connection and Commitment. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Scarritt Bennett and discover how your gifts, graces and dollars could help energize and sustain us for years of service.
On October 12th, we will break ground on enhancements for our labyrinth in our International Peace Garden in honor of Kathryn Mitchem,who led Scarritt College’s department of Church and Community, equipping students to learn and act on what it means to love your neighbor. This is a Scarritt College Alumni initiative and will happen as they gather on campus from October 11-14 for Seeds of Hope to rekindle the flame that Scarritt College placed in their hearts.
If the summer has left you a little weary and in need of some neighborly rest, make your way to our 11 acre oasis in midtown Nashville bordered by 18th Ave. S., Grand Ave., and 19th Ave S.
Sometimes all it takes is a walk across campus to find your place in our neighborhood.
