Week 2: Women’s Empowerment Month
During the month of March we are praying together as we celebrate women from across many professions and backgrounds during the month of March. This guide to daily prayer is designed to be simple, accessible, and invites all in the Scarritt Bennett community to prayer together as we start this year together.
March 08: The Scientist Marie Curie
Marie Curie was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the only person to win a Nobel in two different sciences (Physics and Chemistry).
Short Prayer: Illuminate scientists with knowledge and curiosity, to discover and innovate for the betterment of all.
Scripture: Daniel 1:17 – To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning.
March 09: The Homemaker Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart is an American retail businesswoman, writer, and television personality known for her lifestyle brand and homemaking empire.
Short Prayer: Bless homemakers with love and patience, making their homes a place of warmth and welcome.
Scripture: Proverbs 31:27 – She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
March 10: The Explorer Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart was an American aviation pioneer and author, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
Short Prayer: Guide explorers with courage and a spirit of adventure, to discover and learn from the unknown.
Scripture: Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
March 11: The Entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker
Madam C.J. Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist, hailed as the first female self-made millionaire in America for her successful line of hair care products.
Short Prayer: Inspire entrepreneurs with the determination and insight to create and lead successful ventures.
Scripture: Luke 12:48 – From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
March 12: The Athlete Serena Williams
Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the sport, known for her powerful playing style and numerous tennis records.
Short Prayer: Bless athletes with strength and discipline, to achieve excellence and inspire through their achievements.
Scripture:1 Corinthians 9:24-25 – Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
March 13: The Mentor Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist known for her series of seven autobiographies, including “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”
Short Prayer: Guide mentors to share their knowledge and experience, empowering others to grow and succeed.
Scripture: Titus 2:7-8 – In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
March 14 The Mother Mary, Mother of Jesus
Mary, Mother of Jesus was a central figure in Christianity, venerated as the mother of Jesus Christ, with her obedience and faithfulness to God celebrated across various Christian denominations.
Short Prayer: Bless mothers with unconditional love, patience, and wisdom, to nurture and guide their children.
Scripture: Proverbs 31:25-28 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
