Week 1: Women’s Empowerment Month
During the month of March we are praying together as we celebrate women from across many professions and backgrounds during the month of March. This guide to daily prayer is designed to be simple, accessible, and invites all in the Scarritt Bennett community to prayer together as we start this year together.
March 1: The Innovater – Aida Lovelace
Aida Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer, recognized as the first computer programmer for her work on Charles Babbage’s early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine.
Short Prayer: Lord, bless the innovators with creativity and the courage to bring new ideas to life.
Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
March 2: The Educator – Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator who developed the Montessori method of education, which emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development.
Short Prayer: Guide educators in imparting wisdom and inspiring minds with patience and love.
Scripture: James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
March 3: The Healer – Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale was an English social reformer and the founder of modern nursing, known for her pioneering work in healthcare during the Crimean War.
Short Prayer: Offer strength and compassion to healers, that they may bring comfort and healing to all.
Scripture: Psalm 147:3 – He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
March 4: The Artist – Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico, and for her exploration of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.
Short Prayer: Bless artists with the vision to see and the talent to create works that inspire and uplift.
Scripture: Exodus 35:31-32 – He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs.
March 5: The Leader – Cleopatra
Cleopatra was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, known for her intelligence, political acumen, and romantic liaisons with Roman leaders Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.
Short Prayer: Provide leaders with wisdom, integrity, and the ability to guide with justice and mercy.
Scripture: Proverbs 31:8-9 – Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
March 6: The Advocate – Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was An African American civil rights activist whose refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, spurred the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Short Prayer: Empower advocates to speak boldly and with love, fighting for justice and equality for all.
Scripture: Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
March 7: The Peacemaker – Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary, known for her charitable work among the poorest of the poor in Kolkata (Calcutta), India.
Short Prayer: Grant peacemakers the wisdom to navigate conflict with grace, fostering understanding and peace.
Scripture: Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
