Second Week of Advent Meditation: PEACE
May the Lord who gives peace give you peace at all times and in every way. May the Lord be with all of you.
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIRV
Advent invites us into the holy tension of waiting…waiting not with anxiety, but with expectation. In the second candle of Advent, we light the candle of Peace, remembering that peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the very presence of Christ.
1. Peace Is Possible
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:18
Peace is not always easy, but Scripture assures us that it is possible. Paul acknowledges that we cannot control every situation or every person but we can control our posture. We choose forgiveness. We choose understanding. We choose restraint. We choose love.
Peace begins with a decision: I will not return harm for harm. I will not mirror chaos. I will pursue peace.
Advent reminds us that even in a fractured world, peace is still within reach.
2. Peace Is Personal
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3
Peace is not only something we seek in relationships, it is something God desires to cultivate within us. Perfect peace comes not from perfect circumstances, but from a steadfast mind anchored in trust.
When our thoughts are fixed on God instead of fear…
When our hearts are centered in faith instead of frustration…
When our spirits rest in God instead of rushing in worry…
We must choose PEACE! Peace is personal. Peace is not based on other people, places or things. Peace comes when we focus on God and God’s promises. God meets us in the inner chambers of the soul and whispers, “I am Here!”
3. Peace Is Powerful
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Jesus never promised a trouble-free life but He did promise a peace-filled life. The peace of Christ is not fragile. It is battle-tested. It stands steady in storms. It speaks calm into chaos. It strengthens us when the road is long and the night is heavy.
This peace does not ignore hardship—it overcomes it.
This peace does not deny pain—it defeats despair.
This peace does not run from the world—it transforms it.
And this peace is found in Christ alone.
Let’s Reflect:
- Where is God inviting you to practice peace this week?
- What would it look like to release control and fully trust God with what troubles you?
- Who in your life needs to experience the peace of Christ through you?
Let’s Pray:
Lord of Peace, Thank You for being our stillness in the storm, our anchor in uncertainty, and our hope in waiting. Teach us to pursue peace in our relationships, to protect peace in our hearts, and to walk boldly in the powerful peace of Christ. May the grace of God shine on us and give us peace today and throughout the year. May the Lord who gives peace give you peace at all times and in every way. May the Lord be with all of you. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Peace & Blessings,
Rev. Sondrea L. Tolbert
