Today, we join countless others in honoring the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Rosetta Miller-Perry, a visionary publisher, courageous civil rights advocate, steadfast champion for justice and transformative leader.

Scarritt Bennett Center is deeply grateful to have recognized Mrs. Perry with the Friend of Scarritt Bennett Center Award in 2014, honoring her unwavering commitment to strengthening communities through service, advocacy, and transformational leadership. This award celebrates individuals whose partnership and dedication have made a lasting impact, and Mrs. Perry embodied its very spirit.

Through her pioneering work as founder of Contempora magazine, the The Tennessee Tribune, Greater Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Anthony J. Cebrun Journalism Center, Mrs. Perry used the power of words to amplify voices too often unheard. She understood that journalism is more than reporting the news. It is preserving history, promoting justice, empowering communities, and inspiring future generations.

Her partnership with Scarritt Bennett Center reflected our shared commitment to creating space for a more just world. She believed in lifting others, cultivating opportunity, and ensuring that stories of resilience, hope, and progress would never be forgotten.

As we remember Mrs. Rosetta Miller-Perry, we celebrate a woman whose influence extended far beyond the printed page. Her life reminds us that one voice, grounded in truth and guided by purpose, can transform a city, a state, and generations to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Tennessee Tribune family. May we honor her memory by continuing the work she loved, speaking truth, pursuing justice, mentoring young leaders, and building communities where every voice is valued.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23

May her legacy continue to inspire us to lead with courage, serve with compassion, and leave the world more just than we found it.
