NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A North Nashville family lost their home to a fire that started minutes after power was restored following a seven-day outage.
The Washington family home, where Rickey Washington’s parents have lived since 1973, appeared well-maintained from the outside, but the interior was destroyed by flames.
“It’s really hard because this is their whole livelihood. Now, it’s gone. It’s gone,” Washington said. “Their memories, all their memories, all the old paperwork. My mom, because she was a teacher, she used to keep some of the paperwork, you know, and stuff like that. That’s all gone. Those memories are gone.”
The family has deep roots in the neighborhood, where Washington’s mother worked as a teacher and his father coached basketball. The street is home to notable residents, including Ed Temple, the former track coach for Tennessee State University.

Rickey and his folks are struggling to cover hotel costs and replace essential items, including Rickey’s work uniforms and clothing, which were lost in the fire. This is a difficult time for them, and any contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference.
Let’s come together to help the Washington family rebuild their lives.
