Tuesdays in the Chapel is Scarritt Bennett Center’s weekly 35-minute worship service. Hosted by the Soul Work program, this service is offered each Tuesday at 12:30pm in our historic Wightman Chapel (campus map). Each chapel service includes preaching, scripture, prayer, music and features guest preachers from a variety of backgrounds and faiths.

Join us for a midweek Sabbath break that provides peaceful space for renewal and spiritual refreshment.

Tuesdays in the Chapel welcomes in-person worshipers in Wightman Chapel and streams live online. Recordings of previous services, as well as feeds to upcoming livestreams, can be found on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.

About Reverend Franklin

Rev. Franklin is the seventh child of late Rev. James L. Moon and the late Lakie R. Moon. She was born in Bristol, Virginia and, with the remainder of the family, lived wherever her father’s ministry carried them.

She received her public education in schools in both Bluefield, West Virginia and Nashville, Tennessee. She is a graduate of McGavock Comprehensive High School, received her Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business of Tennessee State University, and earned the Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School.

An ordained elder in the Tennessee Conference of The United Methodist Church since 1990, Rev. Franklin has served as pastor of Dixon Memorial, Key-Stewart, Neely’s Bend, Burton’s Chapel, Kynett, and Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Churches. She also served as campus minister/director of the Wesley Foundation at Tennessee State University. After her retirement from full-time ministry in 2017, she served as interim pastor of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church and part-time pastor of Dixon Memorial United Methodist Church.

One of her passions in ministry is engaging in ministries that inspire and deepen the faith of women in the church and community. Since returning to retired, inactive status, she returned to her home church, Seay-Hubbard, where she serves as president of their United Women in Faith unit, coordinator of Confirmation, and administrator for the Safe Gatherings for the church.
Rev. Franklin is married to Victor L. Franklin, Sr. To this union of 44 years four awesome children were born. As well, they cherish being the grandparents of six beautiful grandchildren and grandparents in love to two of the nieces of our one of our daughters-in-love (law).

Her love for the Lord is evident in her ministry for Christ and her relationship with those she encounters.

Her favorite verse of scripture is:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all of your soul, and with all of your strength, and with all of your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)
