The Clearing: A Place for Spiritual Discovery and Exploration

You are invited into the Clearing — a place for spiritual discovery and exploration, created in partnership by MashUp and Scarritt Bennett Racial Justice Ministries.

In this meeting, we will dive into “The Book of the Living“, a collection of scriptures drawn from Octavia Butler’s acclaimed sci-fi novels “The Parable of the Sower” and “The Parable of Talents“, which are written in a post apocalyptic future where America has fallen into extreme chaos under an authoritative political that feels all too similar to our current landscape. Butler’s scriptures scattered throughout the two novels, premise God not as a all-knowing personified figure sitting on a heavenly throne, but instead these scriptures are rooted in the idea of God as the elemental force of change.
