Laskey Art Gallery: Michael McBride Writers of the Harlem Renaissance

June 23August 9

Celebrated artist Michael McBride comes to Laskey Art Gallery with a new show entitled Writers of the Harlem Renaissance.

This evocative series of block prints brings to life the most cutting edge voices of Manhattan’s black cultural renaissance.

In his Artist Statement, McBride shares:

“I always try to create work that excites me. I have a fascination with the Art movement of the Harlem Renaissance that was the epitome of African American Culture. This is an ongoing series of linoleum black prints about African American writers starting with the Harlem Renaissance writers. The reason for choosing this medium was two folded, first no artist that I know of has done a block print series on African American writers and Secondly, printmaking is a discipline that I love because of the immediacy. African American artists during the Harlem Renaissance used this medium because it allowed for the production of multiple images of a simgle image to generate income. I look forward to the continuation of this series and hope you will enjoy the journey with me.”

Laskey Galler is open from 9am-4pm Mondays through Saturdays and is free and open to the public.

Parking is free.
