Do Your Part
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
— 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 (NRSV)
In this passage, Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that ministry is collaborative, not competitive. The church had begun dividing its loyalty—some following Paul, others Apollos. Paul redirects their focus from personalities to purpose: the real work and increase come from God. Planting and watering symbolize the diversity of gifts and responsibilities within the body of Christ. Each person plays a vital part in God’s larger design. The text underscores divine partnership: we are co-workers with God, laboring together to nurture growth, justice, and beloved community.
A symphony is comprised of many instruments, each with a unique sound—strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion. Alone, a single instrument may carry a melody, but when all join together under one conductor, the result is harmony. In the same way, a beloved community becomes a symphony of grace when everyone does their part—some plant seeds of hope, others water them with encouragement, and God orchestrates the beauty of transformation.
Let’s Reflect:
What would happen if each of us tuned our lives to God’s rhythm of love, justice, and peace?
Imagine a world where everyone played their part—not louder or lesser than another—but in harmony. A beloved community is not born from uniformity but from unity of purpose. When we walk in our purpose, pursue justice, and love unconditionally, we embody the heart of flesh that God desires—soft, open, responsive. Gratitude becomes our melody. Peace becomes our harmony. Together, we reflect the divine music of reconciliation in a fragmented world.
- Do your part — whether you’re planting, watering, or simply tending the soil of another’s growth.
- Honor every role — each contribution matters, seen or unseen.
- Stay grateful — for the opportunity to participate in God’s transforming work.
- Keep your heart open — let empathy, compassion, and humility keep you attuned to God’s rhythm.
- Seek harmony, not hierarchy — working with others rather than above or apart from them builds the beloved community.
When we align our purpose with God’s, our efforts—no matter how small—become part of something much greater: a sacred symphony of peace and justice.
Let’s Pray:
God of Harmony and Growth, Thank You for calling us to be co-laborers in Your divine garden. Teach us to plant faithfully, to water patiently, and to trust You for the increase. Help us to play our part with joy and humility, knowing that each note contributes to the music of Your Kingdom. Soften our hearts to love freely, serve gratefully, and live peacefully. May our collective efforts create a melody of hope that echoes throughout the world. Amen.
Co-laboring with you,
