Civic Engagement is Commitment to Community
Scarritt Bennett holds space for individuals and groups engage each other to achieve a more just world. But what does that really mean? What does that look like?
Well, you might start with a look at our weekly e news feature Who’s on Campus, which features organizations across the country who return year after year to book our unique conference spaces, lodging and catering options for moments to get away from the office and do deep thinking.
Our event calendar is another clue to our legacy forward commitment to women’s empowerment, racial justice, transformative education and spiritual formation. Take a look at the rest of October.
Early Voting This week we will open again as an early voting site, thanks in large part to our Director of Sales and Development, Jenean Davis, who is a commissioner on Nashville’s Election Board of Commissioners working to remedy voting deserts. Director of Racial Justice Ministries, Kelli X, will be working with groups from Vanderbilt University and NOAH to vote early at Scarritt Bennett.
Family Day Strong families build vibrant communities, yet what does a strong family look like and how do we get there? Rev. Linda Furtado, Director of Soul Work and Arts, approaches this work through song, story script & stage in an event on October 31st designed on strengths based family systems.
The Clearing On October 19th, Rev. Kelli X partners with Mashup to host the second in a monthly series of explorations around spiritual discovery and exploration for people who identify as black and queer, making their way on a public square not built for them.
Conversational Spanish @ Community Lunch Rev. Linda Furtado and Rev. Yuri Rodriguez host an engaging Community Lunch of immersive Spanish the second Wednesday of each month to help increase cross cultural appreciation and practical skills in an ever increasing diverse community. Come by on October 14th and see what it is all about.
Pink Sunday Executive Director Rev. Sondrea Tolbert invites us to join Pink Sunday 2026, and event that she started 20 years ago. Pink Sunday celebrates life, grows awareness and inspires hope for individuals and communities working with breast cancer.
At Scarritt Bennett, we talk a lot about radical welcome and loving our neighbor. And, we are vigilant to make sure these values show up everyday across campus.
Join us and help shape this work through your graces and financial gifts so that there will always be a place of civic engagement committed to community.
