Gratitude for Generous Grants

Thanks to the Tennessee Arts Commission for supporting Soul Work and to the General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) for supporting Racial Justice Ministries!

We are so grateful for your generous grants and for allowing our mission of eradicating racism, empowering women, transformative education, and spiritual formation to continue.

Soul Work Program: $2,200 from the Tennessee Arts Commission

We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the Arts Build Communities (ABC) matching grant in the amount of $2,200 from the Tennessee Arts Commission. Through this program we were afforded the opportunity to invest in Scripture Through Song, Story, Script, And Stage as well as an art gallery exhibit.

The retreat took place on September 20-23, 2023, and the post-event photographic art gallery will continue through Lent 2024.

Racial Justice Ministries Program: $10,000 from General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR)

The Sawubona Leadership Summit (SLS) is an immersive 72-hour experience curated by Scarritt Bennett Centers Racial Justice Ministries. SLC invites young leaders ages 14-24 to align their lives with their hope for a progressively equitable society and become co-creators of justice. SLS will train student leaders to lead by exploring how young people, women, queer folk, and other traditionally marginalized people lead social justice movements. SLS will teach the utilization of storytelling to cultivate compelling narratives, the execution of community organizing initiatives, and nurture self-care and sustainability.
