This 3-hour sacred cut and past workshop will introduce a creative variation of the ancient spiritual practice known as Lectio Divina (“Divine Reading”). Participants will encounter God’s word to them as they use eyes, hands, mind and heart to create their visual reflection on a sacred text. The four traditional steps of Lectio Divina will be practiced as follows.
1. Lectio (reading) — Listening for a word, phrase, or image that speaks to the heart. (No change from traditional first step.)
2. Meditatio (meditation) — Meditating on the word, phrase, or image through selection and placement of print and other materials on a backing surface (most often resembling collage, but not limited to that art form).
3. Oratio (prayer) — Speaking and listening for God’s word through sharing around the experience of Meditatio and the pieces that were created.
4. Contemplatio (contemplation) — Letting the entire experience soak in while resting in God’s presence.
