Join us for an evening of poetic insight, spiritual reflection, and creative community at Poet’s Corner, Scarritt Bennett Center’s signature monthly poetry reading series. This June, we feature award-winning poet, artist, playwright, and actor Henry L. Jones—the inaugural Poet Laureate of Hendersonville, Tennessee and President of the National Black Poet Laureate Society . Jones has authored five celebrated collections, including his newest Black Skillet Blues: Poetry without Cornbread (Beatlick Press, 2025) , and his work appears in over 200 publications and anthologies such as In Fullness of the Word (5th Woman Books, 2023) and Reach for the Sky (Sabre and Quill Pub., 2024) . Drawing on deep cultural roots and historic connections, his evocative verse invites us into conversation, contemplation, and community.
🌟 Open Mic Sign-Up Optional – Arrive early to share your own work with our vibrant community.
☕ Light Refreshments Provided – Enjoy coffee and conversation before and after the reading.
📌 Admission Is Free, and All Are Welcome – Whether you’re a longtime poetry lover or new to the art form, Poet’s Corner is a space to be inspired, reflect, and connect.
