About Barny & Carter Robertson
The daughter of an Oklahoma, Dust Bowl immigrant, Carter Robertson was born in Central California, and raised in the opposing worlds of her mother’s rural church culture and her father’s tendency to walk on the wild side. She has worked as an artist, writer, and background singer in the music industry for most of her life.
Barny Robertson was born and raised in Bakersfield, California, and also grew up in the church, playing piano at an early age. He has worked as a keyboardist, arranger and producer in both contemporary Christian and Country music, where he received the “Nashville Super Picker Award.” He has been nominated for three Dove Awards and in 1992 won a Grammy Award for producing “A Cappella Kids.”
Barny and Carter both traveled and recorded as members of Waylon Jennings’ band for many years–first in the “Waylors” all through Country Music’s Outlaw era, and then again with Waymore’s Blues Band the last 3 years before Waylon passed. Some of their recording credits include Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Graham Nash, Johnny Cash and have both received many gold and platinum albums throughout their career.
In 2012 Carter’s critically acclaimed memoir “Playin’ on the Tracks” and CD “Neighborhood of Secrets” was released, as well as a film based on her show “Playin’ on the Tracks—LIVE!” They are both currently performing in “Waylon’s Way” for the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as “Runnin’ With Ol’ Waylon” with their former Waylor bandmates.
Carter & Barny have been married for 47 years and have three daughters, who are the members of the country music group “Carter’s Chord.” They have eight grandchildren. All are 9 years old and below!
