A beloved annual tradition, Scarritt Bennett Center’s Christmas Concert series is a treasured part of the Nashville holiday season. From December 6 through December 15, Scarritt Bennett Center will premiere Christmas concerts in Wightman Chapel showcasing various Nashville artists.
Our Christmas Concert with Paula Chavis will premiere online on Wednesday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m. CT, via Scarritt Bennett Center’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, bringing the holiday cheer right to your home. So put on your favorite Christmas pajamas, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and get ready for a stunning evening of music, streamed right to you!

Paula James Chavis is one of Nashville’s most acclaimed Jazz vocalists. She is a song stylist whose realm of music embraces jazz, gospel, secular and contemporary styles. Blessed with a vocal gift and realized as a young child, Chavis began singing at the tender age of 4 in church. Chavis’s love for music was realized when she enrolled at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and began singing Mass in Latin.
Chavis began singing professionally in college, recording voice-overs and national commercials, and has engaged in numerous television spots on and off camera, including radio and television commercials, music videos, vocal characters, and on PBS TV network. Chavis won the American Idol competition in Orlando in 2010. Chavis has appeared in commercials for the Tennessee Lottery, Bank of America, Captain D’s, Superbowl Halftime for Kids, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Chavis has also released her CD on her own label and been a featured vocalist on numerous albums.
Chavis is a retired MNPS elementary educator of 34 years. Prior to teaching in the Metro Nashville Public Schools system, she taught reading in the Department of Corrections facility, Spencer Youth Center, and at Easter Seal Center for Handicapped Children. Paula received bachelor’s degree from Knoxville College, her master’s in Special Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt, and Certification from Belmont University.
