On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will take the Oath of Office to serve the United States of America. This will be a historic day to celebrate new beginnings and possibilities for the re-ordering of our country. However, they cannot do the work alone.
To quote Valerie Kaur:
Sound government is necessary—but it is not sufficient to heal and transition our country into a place where all of us are free. We are living through unprecedented turmoil, injustice, reckoning, and loss. We need a shift in culture and consciousness, a new way of being together, a revolution of the heart. And so, we are calling for a People’s Inauguration. We, the people, need to be inaugurated into the labor of healing and rebuilding our society into a place that is anti-racist and equitable—and anchored in love.
The historic Wightman Chapel at Scarritt Bennett Center will be open for individual prayer on January 21, 2021, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. in solidarity with people throughout our country who are choosing to take an inaugural oath as a commitment to building a better, just, and peaceable society.
“Let’s create a moral vision for the America we are capable of becoming.” (The People’s Inauguration)
