Powerhouse Conversations: Carry Her Name into the Room
On Wednesday May 20th Scarritt Bennett Center and MOJO Impact Marketing presented the second in a series of lunchtime conversations from 11:30 am until 1 pm in Bennett Hall on the campus of Scarritt Bennett.
Women in Business was the theme of this luncheon and MOJO CEO Mochiere’ Holmes-Jones moderated a discussion with Nashville leaders including Rev. Sondrea Tolbert, Sharon Reynolds, Shannen Stewart, Sharon Reynolds, Valinda Burke, Buffy Stancil and Dimeta Smith Knight.
Powerhouse Conversations are working luncheons, so after folks had helped themselves to brisket, goatcheese mashed potatoes, asparagus, roasted corn, salad, rolls and an assortment of desert bars, the women got down to business.
As each of the panelists spoke about the complexities around being an female entrepreneur in multiple contexts they shared best practices, disappointments and hard won victories. They discussed the opportunity landscape in Nashville today and forecasted opportunities in their fields, especially around news that Super Bowl LXIV will be coming to Nashville.
Yet the conversation was deeper than shop talk, tips and strategic visioning.
Each panelist mentioned the many ways women leaders in Nashville’s business community had helped them over the years with referrals, reviews and resources. “She carried my name into rooms I couldn’t get into” was a phrase that thredded throughout the luncheon, marking the importance of mutual support that creates momentum for women in different phases in their professional journey.
