Week 3: Women’s Empowerment Month
During the month of March we are praying together as we celebrate women from across many professions and backgrounds during the month of March. This guide to daily prayer is designed to be simple, accessible, and invites all in the Scarritt Bennett community to prayer together as we start this year together.
March 15: The Visionary Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc was a French heroine and saint who, at the age of 17, led the French army to victory over the English at Orléans, claiming divine guidance for her actions.
Short Prayer: Inspire visionaries with clarity and courage, to see beyond the present and lead the way to a better future.
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
March 16: The Writer Virginia Woolf
Virtinia Woolf was an English writer, considered one of the most important modernist 20th-century authors and a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device.
Short Prayer: Bless writers with the words to touch hearts, enlighten minds, and bring change.
Scripture: Psalm 119:172 May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
March 17: The Survivor Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, known for her advocacy for girls’ education in her native Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan.
Short Prayer: Grant survivors resilience and healing, empowering them to overcome and to help others do the same.
Scripture: Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
March 18: The Reformer Susan B. Anthony
Susan B. Anthony was an American social reformer and women’s rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement.
Short Prayer: Inspire reformers with passion and perseverance, to challenge injustice and bring about meaningful change.
Scripture: Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.
March 19 The Philanthropist Melinda Gates
Melinda Gates is an American philanthropist and former general manager at Microsoft, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, focusing on public health, education, and access to information technology.
Short Prayer: Bless philanthropists with generosity and vision, to make a significant impact on the world.
Scripture: Deuteronomy 15:10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
March 20: The Environmentalist Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson was An American marine biologist, author, and conservationist whose book “Silent Spring” and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement.
Short Prayer: Inspire environmentalists with dedication and creativity, to care for the earth and all its inhabitants.
Scripture: Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
March 21: The Activist Greta Thunberg
Gretta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist internationally known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action against climate change.
Short Prayer: Empower activists with courage and compassion, to fight for what is right and to inspire others to do the same.
Scripture: Proverbs 31:8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
