A Cup of Joy
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
We live in a world that drains us. Trauma, grief, burnout, injustice — all deplete our emotional and spiritual reserves. Even Jesus got tired and sat at the well in John 4. The Samaritan woman who met him there came weary, yet open. Her request in John 4:15 is our desperate plea when our cup is empty… “Sir, give me this water so I won’t get thirsty…”
Romans 15:13 is a wonderful prayer that Paul wants every believer to experience during dryness. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
When your cup is empty:
· Pause – Let go of the need to do and busyness.
· Pray – Lift your petition to God and say, “Here’s my cup, Lord, fill it up!”
· Position – Place yourself near the fountain by reading the Word of God, in worship, listening to spirit filled songs, and making sure that you are in fellowship with others.
Prayer:
O God of Hope, fill our empty places. Pour into us joy, peace, and power until we overflow with You. Let every sip we offer the world be flavored with grace and joy. Amen.
Joyfilled blessings,
