Oasis: Scarritt Bennett Hosts Donor Appreciation Lunch

Scarritt Bennett Center leadership hosted donors for a campus tour and luncheon on June 26, 2025.

Whether giving $10, $100, or $1,000, this invested group of Scarritt Bennett supporters shared many reasons for being a part of this special community, yet the unifying thread centered around the concept of oasis.

It was noted that when Belle Harris Bennett intended to move Scarritt College for Christian Workers from Kansas City MO to Nashville, she sought to plant an oasis of justice and mutuality in midtown Nashville.

Among the group, a pastor noted that she had been bringing her church members here for years to take part in programs, concerts and to just enjoy the nurturing quality of the campus. She said, “Scarritt Bennett has really been an oasis in my life and ministry, and I enjoy sharing it with my congregation.”

One donor appreciated Scarritt’s legacy of social justice work. He had taken New Testament classes at Scarritt College in the 1970’s while pursuing an MDiv at Vanderbilt Divinity School and shared “Now, I come here to eat!”

Many echoed appreciation of Community Lunch, open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:30a – 1p and the first, third and fourth Sundays of each month from 11:30a – 2p, as an oasis within an oasis. They appreciated the open invitation to be on campus and gather with friends, colleagues and meet new people in the community.
