Be a part of the Gregorian Institute of America (GIA) workshop and clinic entitled Spirituals, Spirituals, Spirituals! This is the second event of three during Black Sacred Music Weekend 2025
The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday March 1 and will be led by Dr. James Abbington. Abbington serves as Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship at Candler School of Theology, Fellow with The Hymn Society of US and Canada, and is a member of the Gregoian Institute of America.
Join us in Harambee Auditorium, located in Fondren Hall on Scarritt’s campus, for this dynamic session and experience the excitement of singing in a large group of enthusiastic people! You will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the traditional “second generation” spiritual, and some of the most recent arrangements of “Trying to Get Ready” arr. Clayton White,“Spirits That Dwell in Deep Woods” by Wyatt Tee Walker, and an additional eight selected spirituals.
Please register in advance! Your registration fee of $25 includes a copy of the One Baptism Hymnal and additional sheet music
You may register on site the day of the event. That cost is $30, and unfortunately since all materials need to be ordered in advance, you are not guaranteed a copy of
