Barbara E. Campbell
Barbara E. Campbell was born on September 6, 1926, in Olney, Illinois. She attended McKendree College in Lebanon, IL, and received her B.A. and M.A. Degrees from Scarritt College in 1953 and 1954, respectively. She was commissioned a deaconess in 1955 and subsequently served as Director of Christian Education at Niedringhaus Methodist Church in Granite City, IL. In 1958, she joined the staff of the Woman’s Division of Christian Service in New York City; staff responsibilities included Visual Education and Leadership Development. In 1974, she was elected Assistant General Secretary in Administration. Special assignments included working on “the Committee of 24” to develop plans for United Methodist Women; joining a team to create plans for The Scarritt-Bennett Center; and becoming Program Coordinator for the 1994 Assembly. Campbell was a member and then president of the Scarritt-Bennett Center Board of Directors, and she served as Interim President (Executive Director) during 2005. She is the author of “United Methodist Women: In the Middle of Tomorrow” and “To Educate is to Teach to Live.”
