Freedom Rising: Encore Presentation from Shackled Feet Dancers

Join us June 19^th in honor of Juneteenth for a special encore presentation of the Shackled Feet Dancers’ performance of “Freedom Rising” which they performed at Scarritt Bennett Center on Friday, October 14, 2022.

This event, created especially for Scarritt Bennett by Shabaz Ujima and Thea Jones of Shackled Feet Dancers, is an exciting experience of movement drawing us into a story of celebration, struggle, and what is yet to be.

From the Middle Passage to the Present, we traverse through space and time breathing life into the stories of our ancestors. Utilizing movement, song, and spoken word, we honor and celebrate the trailblazers who boldly cleared the path for us. So, like the Solstice Sun, we may rise and be suspended in significance and synergism, illuminating collective light over our communities and beyond.
