Kathryn Armistead\, highlights untold stories of interracial activism and women’s leadership.\n\n\n\nDon’t miss historian Janet Allured\, Ph.D.\, as she discusses the legacy of Southern Methodist women in the fight for social justice.\n\nSPEAKER BIO:\n\nJanet Allured\, Ph.D.\, retired Professor of History and of Women’s Studies at McNeese State University\, is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Arkansas. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications on southern women\, including Louisiana Women:  Their Lives and Times (2009)\, Remapping Second-Wave Feminism:  The Long Women’s Rights Movement in Louisiana\, 1950-1997 (2016) and most recently\, a collection of biographies of white and Black southern Methodist women entitled Southern Methodist Women and Social Justice:  Interracial Activism in the Long Twentieth Century (2025)\, co-edited with M. Kathryn Armistead and published by the University Press of Florida. With Elizabeth Payne she co-produced Showers of Blessing:  The Story of Myrtle Lawrence\, Sharecropper and Social Activist\, and the Photography of Louise. She began writing poetry more or less by accident in 2018. Her work is published in the 2021 anthology Sinew: 10 Years of Poetry in the Brew and in the on-line journal Justice Unbound. She is a retired neurologist and college professor (full disclosure – adjunct) and is an ordained Christian minister serving on the pastoral staff of Metropolitan Interdenominational Church in Nashville. Her self-published Devotional Readings for the National Week of Prayer For The Healing of HIV/AIDS honors the decades-long ministry of her congregation in advocacy and in service to persons living with HIV.
