SUMMARY:Everyone Begotten\, Everything Holy: Poetry Event Featuring Dana Malone
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Historic Wightman Chapel on the campus of Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville\, TN.\nDoors open at 6pm.Poetry event starts at 6:30pm.\nRSVP so that we are prepared with appropriate refreshment and have books available for purchase.\n\nAbout the Featured Poetry Book:Everyone Begotten\, Everything Holy braids stories of those who often fade from consideration–the background singers and silenced voices among us. It notes the external vulnerability and inner turmoil in every human being\, while it celebrates the ordinary and the joyful ways we move through our communities and lives. The collection reflects the poet’s musical studies and decades-long career in journalism and speech writing in work that weaves themes of music and composition\, health impediments like Parkinson’s disease and addiction\, a sense of place and lack of belonging\, theology and religiosity\, and violence and war. The collection invites readers to consider\, “In what ways are we/am I successful\, complicit\, doubtful\, curious or troubled in spaces that seem to qualify the invitation ‘Come as you are’?”\n\nAuthor Bio:Dana Malone drew upon the experiences of her musical studies and her journalism and speechwriting career to create the poems in Everyone Begotten\, Everything Holy. She has featured in readings and performances locally\, regionally\, nationally and internationally\, including regular presentations at Scarritt-Bennett Center. Recently\, Dana facilitated expressive writing workshops for The Porch Writers Collective and coordinated the organization’s Poetry on Demand project. Among her notable recent publications are an episode of the NPR-sponsored podcast\, Versify and a poem wrapped on a Nashville WeGo bus. She also is the author of Mother. Grave. Ghost. (Finishing Line Press\, 2022).
