This January\, we welcome Dr. Matthew Leavitt Brown\, Poet Laureate of Murfreesboro\, TN—an award-winning educator\, writer\, and advocate whose work invites us to listen deeply and reflect collectively. \nMatthew Brown [he/him] is the author of Thou Art That and a leading voice in using poetry as a form of social engagement and storytelling. As Murfreesboro’s Poet Laureate\, he gathers voices across the city to create collaborative poetic projects that honor lived experience and give space to those often unheard. Through shared food\, music\, dance\, storytelling\, and gift-giving\, participants reconnect with cultural lifeways that strengthen identity\, resilience\, and mutual support. While socials are primarily an Indigenous community practice\, all are welcome\, reflecting the Indigenous worldview that “we are all related.” \nWinter has long been a traditional season for gathering and storytelling\, making this an especially fitting time to come together. DESCRIPTION:Scarritt Bennett Center is offering campus tours every Tuesday from 1p – 2p. \nWe will meet at Susie Gray Dining Hall at 1p and start the tour from there. Parking is free and please park in Lot B so you will have the most convenient access to Susie Gray. \nCome on over for Community Lunch\, open from 11:30a – until 1p\, and then take the tour! \nIf you come for both lunch and the tour\, the cost is $15 to cover your lunch. \nTours are free. \nPlease register here to let us know you are coming and pre-pay for your lunch. \n

Whether you’re an avid reader or just looking for community\, all are welcome!\nIn-person participation will be our standard moving forward.\nIf you’d like to join via Zoom\, let us know—if requested\, we’ll open a virtual room.\n \nStorylines Book Club is Scarritt Bennett Center’s women’s book club\, providing a unique opportunity to meet new people\, enrich your reading experience\, and expand your perspectives. \nWomen of all ages and backgrounds are invited to join us. Lively conversation and fellowship are guaranteed. \nMeets the 2nd Monday of each month  |  7:00 pm CT \nWe use an app called BookMovement to manage the club. Everything from what we are reading\, making book recommendations\, when we meet\, and Zoom access is in the app.\nThe in-person book club meetings are hybrid upon request to join via Zoom.
