Tuesdays in the Chapel is Scarritt Bennett Center’s weekly 35-minute worship service. Each chapel service includes preaching, scripture, prayer, music and features guest preachers from a variety of backgrounds and faiths.

Join us for a midweek Sabbath break that provides peaceful space for renewal and spiritual refreshment.

About Rev. Dori Gorman

Dori’s dad always told her, “Half of your work is what you do, and the other half is who you get to do it with.” Outside of work, she has some incredible people in her life who she is blessed to call family. This June she will celebrate 16 years of being married to her partner, co-parent and best friend, Rich. They have two growing and vibrant daughters, Charis (11) and Nia (8), and a fun-loving dog, Bailey (3). They enjoy camping together, asking silly questions at dinner, weekly family movie nights, and honestly, figuring out what it means to daily die to themselves as they keep figuring out how to live together. Personally, she loves anything outdoors, running, reading, and working a good puzzle.

As for vocational ministry, she graduated as a ministry student from Baylor University and received her Masters of Divinity from Emmanuel Christian Seminary in Johnson City, TN. Although she has worked in a variety of contexts and served numerous age groups, her most formative years as a pastor were spent in the north side of Chicago (2010-2019) where she co-planted and co-pastored NewStory Church with Rich. After a decade of serving together in ministry, Rich changed careers to become a therapist and Dori stepped into a new role in 2019 as the Chaplain of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Although Dori grew up in Franklin, much has changed in the past 20 years and she is thoroughly enjoying serving her hometown community through the ministry of the Y. With over 250,000 members, 2,500 staff, and programs impacting over 10,000 kids – the reach of the Y is remarkable. Her priorities include: supporting the staff, creating spiritual and mental health opportunities for members and youth, and strategically leading the Y to be more equitable and inclusive for all, as inspired by the Christian faith.
