Scarritt-Bennett Center Announces New Executive Director

Nashville, Tennessee – August 31, 2012 – Dr. Jocelyn Briddell Dr. Jocelyn Briddell has been named Executive Director of Scarritt-Bennett Center. The appointment will begin January 1, 2013.  Scarritt-Bennett Center is a nonprofit education, retreat and conference center that presents a variety of programs and events that address racial equality, cross-cultural understanding, the empowerment of women and spiritual renewal.

As an administrator in higher education for thirty years, Dr. Briddell brings extensive experience in facilities management, program planning and community collaboration.  Most recently, she has served as Dean of Student Life at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. 

“Dr. Briddell is a visionary, thoughtful and warm,” said Lynne Westfield, Scarritt-Bennett Center board chair.  “She has, by her experience and reputation, strong management skills.  She is very articulate and has a deep passion for Scarritt-Bennett Center’s mission in the eradication of racism, empowerment of women, and spiritual renewal.” 

“It truly is very exciting to think about being a part of an institution where I can contribute with innovation and enthusiasm towards the advancement of Scarritt-Bennett Center,” Briddell said.

Dr. Briddell has served as a member of the several boards including the Kente Cultural Center, Re-New London Council, the New London Public Library, and was most recently appointed to serve on the New London Education Foundation.  She also serves as the President of the Black Alumnae Network with the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College where she was honored by receiving the Douglass Medal for her contributions to the Alumnae Association and Douglass College.  She holds a master's degree from the College of New Jersey and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.
